2009 COMMISSIONER DISTRICT REDISTRICTING
According to C.R.S. 30-10-306, the Board of County Commissioners is required to divide the county into five commissioner districts which are as nearly equal in population as possible based on the most recent census and shall not be subject to alteration more often than once every two years.
Per C.R.S. 30-10-306(5), no less than 30 days prior to adopting any resolution to change the boundaries, a public hearing must be held. This was done April 14, 2009. Following the 30 day public review and comment period, Plan A was adopted by the Board of County Commissioners on May 26, 2009.
According to statistics provided by ESRI population projections, 6,378 people were affected by the changes. Voter Information Cards with the new district information will be sent to the affected 3,595 active voters.
In summation, precincts 191 and 212 were moved from District 1 to District 5. Precincts 200 and 234 were moved from District 2 to District 5. Precincts 13 and 24 were moved from District 5 to District 3. Precincts in District 4 were not affected.
Upcoming elections for commissioners in Districts 1 and 5 will be part of the 2010 General Election. Elections for commissioners in Districts 2, 3, and 4 will be held as part of the 2012 General Election.
