Notices:
  • The voter-approved additional funding for the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office is effective January 1, 2013. The County sales and use tax rates for all non-exempt retail purchases, including use tax on automobiles, will change from 1 percent (0.01) to 1.23 percent (0.0123). This means that County sales and use tax on a $100.00 purchase will now be $1.23.
  • Effective July 1, 2006, all new and duplicate title applications are required to include a SECURE AND VERIFIABLE IDENTIFICATION to complete the transaction. Secure and Verifiable Identification is required to be presented for new registration, new placard and new temporary permit transactions, although no photocopy is required.
  • Emissions – Effective January 1, 2007, the basic emissions test is no longer required for gasoline powered vehicles in El Paso County. For further emissions information (including diesel requirements) follow the link below:
                                           
                  
    Colorado Motor Vehicle Emissions Program
  • Effective June 1, 2009, per C.R.S. 42-3-112 (SB09-108), a $25 monthly Late Fee will be charged on all vehicle renewals after the last day of the month following expiration. The fee will not exceed $100.
  • SB09-108 Registration Fee Increase effective July 1, 2009
    Note: Fees will increase each year through June 30, 2012

Exceptions: Collector plated vehicles (5-yr. registration) are charged the SB09-108 add-on fees for one year only and the fee increase for farm trucks/tractors is ½ of the amount listed above. The fees do not apply to vehicles (+50 yrs) with horseless carriage registration.

  • Driver’s License Transactions - Effective April 4, 2011 the Real ID Act requires applicants for all Driver’s License transactions to show proof of their residential address. A parent's proof of address indicated on the license is acceptable for a minor child. The applicant may provide one of the following documents:

    o Utility bill
    o Credit card statement
    o Pay stub or earnings statement
    o Rent receipt (may be handwritten)
    o Telephone or cell phone bill
    o Transcript or report card from an accredited school     
    o Bank statement
    o Mortgage document
    o Tax document - Federal IRS; State; County Assessment; Local City Government 
    o Homeowner’s/renter's insurance policy
    o Vehicle registration

  • If there is more than one owner of the vehicle, all owners are required to declare their intent to have the Certificate of Title issued in Joint Tenancy with Rights of Survivorship. This may be accomplished by completing the Joint Tenancy with Rights of Survivorship Acknowledgement of Intent Form (DR2395).
  • Payment options are limited to cash, check or debit/credit cards. Each branch has an ATM in the lobby.
